Curriculum

Our major objective at GIST is to develop individual skill levels for each child to encourage their interest in German-speaking countries and cultures and above all to enhance their enjoyment of the German language.

In our first year, we will offer classes on Saturday mornings from 9:30am to 12 noon to students ranging in age from 5-10 years old.
We will accommodate different language levels and backgrounds, ranging from children whose first language is German to beginners with an interest, but little or no German language background.

We will provide a classroom setting that is conducive to fostering the children’s intellectual curiosity, no matter what their linguistic level. We will explore various interesting topics and observe German cultural holidays.  The children will learn through music, singing, playing, reading, storytelling with pictures, props, puppets, and crafts. Older students who are already comfortable with reading and writing skills in English will be introduced to reading and writing in German.
